The Sports Therapy Association Podcast is recorded LIVE every Tuesday at 8pm (UK) on the Sports Therapy Association YouTube channel and Facebook Page, and then uploaded as a podcast. You do not have to be an STA member to attend the live recordings - it is a chance to network with fellow therapists and discuss topics that together help us all move forward as an industry. The goal of the podcast, hosted by Matt Phillips (creator of runchatlive.com), is to deliver to Soft Tissue Therapists of all levels (including massage therapists, sports therapists, physiotherapists, podiatrists, chiropractors, etc.) up to date information on how to be a modern, successful, effective health care practitioner, with a gold star reputation for being able to help people in pain and/or looking for performance gains. The Sports Therapy Association (STA) is a professional representation for Sports Therapists, Sports Injury Therapists and Soft Tissue Therapists. We have worked passionately to develop a truly independent and ethical association that is committed to raising standards across the industry and progressing opportunities for our valued members.

Welcome to the Sports Therapy Association Podcast!
Recorded live on Tuesdays at 8pm (UK time) on the Sports Therapy Association Facebook Page , host Matt Phillips (creator of Runchatlive) brings guests from the Sports Therapy industry to answer YOUR questions and discuss topics chosen by YOU.
As soft tissue therapists, how much should we be expected to know about Women's Health? How accurate is our understanding of what Women’s Health even means or what it encompasses?
In Ep.24 of the Sports Therapy Association Podcast, we are we are honoured to be joined by special guest Grainne Donnelly, an Advanced Physiotherapist in pelvic health, an educator & researcher with special interest in diastasis and postnatal exercise.
Grainne helps us identify questions that we should be asking more often to our female clients, and also ways to overcome the sense of awkwardness that the therapist and client can feel. We will also be talking about the "Guidelines for Returning to Running Post Pregnancy" published in 2019 that Grainne co-authored with Emma Brockwell & Tom Goom, and the implications this can have on our work with female runners.

Traditional explanations of what is going on under the hands of a Soft Tissue Therapist during a treatment often raise discerning eyebrows when subjected to a critical eye. Despite what is still often taught on many soft tissue based courses, popular claims of 'breaking down scar tissue', 'releasing muscles' and 'increasing circulation' are at best unsupported by any quality research and at worst physiologically impossible. Is this the end of Soft Tissue Therapy? Not necessarily.
In Ep.23 of the Sports Therapy Association Podcast, special guests Anna Maria Mazzieri, Becky DeMott Horton & Matt Scarsbrook of 'The Massage Collective', discuss how a modern, up-to-date understanding of the effect of therapeutic touch on the nervous system could well pave not just a safe future for Soft Tissue Therapy but also one that could very much help lead the way in evidence based practice.

Ep.22 of the Sports Therapy Association Podcast brings to the table a topic that causes much divide amongst soft tissue therapists: 'Would Sports Therapy benefit from Statutory Regulation?' It's a topic very close to STA founder Gary Benson’s heart, and indeed if you click on About tab on the STA website you will see the 'Regulation' section with a letter Gary put to the Policy department of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) back in March 2020 asking for clarification of a number of points regarding regulation of the industry.
Along with Gary, we are delighted to also be joined by Chris Kitson, co-founder of 'Endurance Therapy & Performance' and an EX-osteopath. That’s right, Chris decided to LEAVE a regulated body voluntarily, forfeiting his right to be part of the Allied Health Professionals!

In Ep.21 of the Sports Therapy Association Podcast, we are privileged to once again have Malcolm Sloan, founder of Sports Injury Fix & co-founder of TherapistLearning.com back in the Hot Seat.
Malcolm leads a discussion about CPD & Learning, drawing attention to the fact that modern training is seeing a shift from the traditional 'all in one' course to smaller courses with 'bite sized chunks'. Given that we generally only ever retain a small amount form a long course, this could well be a positive shift which lends itself greater to our learning as soft tissue therapists.
As in all our episodes, YOU the members lead the debate, and in this episode in particular we had some fantastic questions (and answers) from people who joined us for the live recording.
