The Sports Therapy Association Podcast is recorded LIVE every Tuesday at 8pm (UK) on the Sports Therapy Association YouTube channel and Facebook Page, and then uploaded as a podcast. You do not have to be an STA member to attend the live recordings - it is a chance to network with fellow therapists and discuss topics that together help us all move forward as an industry. The goal of the podcast, hosted by Matt Phillips (creator of runchatlive.com), is to deliver to Soft Tissue Therapists of all levels (including massage therapists, sports therapists, physiotherapists, podiatrists, chiropractors, etc.) up to date information on how to be a modern, successful, effective health care practitioner, with a gold star reputation for being able to help people in pain and/or looking for performance gains. The Sports Therapy Association (STA) is a professional representation for Sports Therapists, Sports Injury Therapists and Soft Tissue Therapists. We have worked passionately to develop a truly independent and ethical association that is committed to raising standards across the industry and progressing opportunities for our valued members.

And so we reach the final part of our December 'Focus on Fascia', and at the same time the last episode of 2021!
In this OPEN GROUP DISCUSSION on Fascia we are joined by special guests:
- Liz Bayley: Physiotherapist, Sports Therapist, Psychology Graduate and former professional dancer (also our guest in Ep. 33 & 60).
- Ian Linane: Podiatrist & Fascial Manipulation Therapist at Podia-clinic and trainer in manual therapy at Infigo Education.
- David Poulter: Developer alongside Robin McKenzie of the McKenzie Institute International Diploma course, presenter of international courses including “Patients have all the Answers”, “Telling isn’t Teaching”, and “Manual techniques in a Patient Centred Paradigm.” Currently works as a consultant through his own company MT3 and online mentoring program for clinicians.
Together, the guests reflect on questions sent in following our two Fascia Episodes - Ep79 with Julian Baker of Functional Anatomy & Ana Barretxeguren of Evolve Movement Education, and Ep.80 with Walt Fritz of 'Foundations in Manual Therapy Seminars' and Tania Velásquez, founder of Pinpoint Education. Questions are also taken from the live audience who joined us via the STA Facebook page and STA YouTube channel.
Questions discussed include:
- "I have heard that we cannot change the structure of Fascia with our hands. How do explain the changes that I see at the end of treatments?"
- "My clients feel better at the end of my treatments. Who cares what is happening under my hands?"
- "Why does everyone criticize the word ‘release’? My clients are tense when they come to see me. I release that tension. The client just wants to feel better. They do not care what words we use."
- "If we don't know what is happening under our hands, how can we get Client Consent?"
- "I've just finished a degree that taught me myofascial release, trigger points and myofascial meridians. has this all been a waste of time?"
Topics discussed include:
- The role of the nervous system in manual therapy
- The Biopsychosocial model
- Placebo vs Contextual Effect
- Allied health Professionals, Sports Therapy & Regulation
- How to move on from outdated theories
A huge thanks to our guests Liz Bayley, Ian Linane and in particular the highly respected David Poulter, who despite initial technical difficulties managed to join us from Coon Rapids, Minnesota, US.
